Students between 10 and 12 years have an advanced growth of muscles and improvement
in social, communicative and thinking skills. This drives them to leave their childhood life which may leave them uncertain about themselves.
Pre-adolescent students undergo a sudden growth and signs of puberty come out clearly especially with girls. This is illustrated by hair growth, oily skin, voice change or weight gain. This growth needs healthy food because they usually increase appetite and also they need to sleep more. They are willing to do a high physical activity level and enjoy showing their mastery of specific skills. They have a huge interest in competitive games.
They are more attached to their peers and like to spend time with a small group of friends. They increase loyalty to their friends. They try to gain their admiration and recognition. Sometimes, this happens in undesirable behaviors like violating rules which cause them to pay the price dearly. Sometimes, they hold their breath for a long time to win a challenge. They like to join a small group for building their own independence. They become very loyal to their peers. However, they lack the sufficient experience to go alone completely. Therefore, parents ought to have their ways in guiding and direct their kids. They are keen to grow, yet they are uncertain about their puberty and changes to their bodies. This may lead to waving mood with no clear reason.
During these years, they grow with inquisitive minds. They desire thoughtful answers for their questions. They initiate abstract thinking, but not yet completed. They still go back to concrete thinking. They think like a grown-up. They can gather information and form an opinion including a view about social and global issues. However, they may draw a right or wrong assumption (subjective).
Body changes and the need to be independent are obvious milestones in this stage of your children or students lives. They develop more complex thinking and increase the ability to learn more.
